Faith Formation is more than Religious Education. It is certainly about knowledge of the faith, but is also about liturgical education, moral formation, learning to pray, community life, and missionary spirit. The end result of Faith Formation should be a mature adult faith. That means that Faith Formation is not contained to just the sacramental preparation years or that it ends with the reception of Confirmation. Faith Formation continues throughout life!
Parents are the primary catechists of their children. In all that they say and do, they are passing on the faith. To this end we strive to work cooperatively with parents so that they are well equipped for this responsibility. We welcome parents into the classrooms, provide resources, offer faith formation classes for parents of children in sacramental preparation, and provide other faith formation offerings so that ALL can grow in their faith.
A Catholic with mature adult faith is one who:
- Knows the precepts of the faith.
- Is formed by the liturgy – the readings, homily, songs, prayers, community, and especially the Eucharist.
- Makes moral decisions prayerfully and with the teachings of the Church in mind.
- Prays on a regular basis, both individually and communally.
- Participates actively in the life of the faith community through social, liturgical, formational and outreach activities.
- Carries out the mission of the Church by serving in local and global ways.
- Continues growing in the faith throughout their life.
